The Beacon Project, St John's Ministry to the homeless and addicted

Matthew 25: 35-36 "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

The Beacon project began more than eight years ago with five young homeless people coming into church in the day time. At around the same time  regular evening outreach soup runs began in the town centre. We are thankful that God has led us each step of the way since then. Some steps have been easier and clearer than others but God has been constant and faithful, particularly through challenging times. His protection and provision are a continual blessing.

Today St John’s Beacon ministry serving the homeless in Mansfield continues to be committed to caring for all those we encounter. We provide two cooked meals a week, use of shower and toilets, and laundry facilities. We also supply clothes, toiletries, prayer and several listening ears. The soup run gathers a regular congregation in town, offering not just hot drinks and sandwiches, but also comfort, community and prayer.
